Listen to Whosit Now?

[No pictures this time, kiddies.]

I’ve finally reached that point in every non-connoisseur’s life when they start getting seriously behind on that certain subject/product. There are so many new musical artists coming out nowadays, I haven’t been able to keep up with these cats for the life of me. It’s not even like I haven’t had the time to check out artists…but I think I’m reaching my quota for favorite artists to check for. (more…)

No Gun on the Hip = Much More Likable

I drove up to my building today and saw a fire truck surrounded by my neighbors. Now, my first thought was, “Oh crap something is aflame! I’m glad the firemen are here!” But, as I got closer I then realized nothing was on fire; kids in the crowd were all wearing little fireman helmets, and no one seemed worried or frenzied. These wonderful public servants—very Superman-esque in their red uniforms and just in the nick-of-time arrival—were just patrolling, and stopped to chat with the neighborhood.

Some kids (and adults) consider it cool to be a Firefighter, perceivably less feel the same about a crime-fighter...unless it's Batman or something...

Somehow, I made the mental transition from  flame-motivated panic to socializing rather smoothly. I’m sure you’ve done it to when it comes to the boys in red, But not so much with the their cousins, the boys in blue. Its interesting to me how the love and respect for men in uniform tends to solidify in our minds as it pertains to Firemen, but for Policemen, it tends to crumble into sad little specs of admiration over time (usually around the age of accountability: 16-18).

Is it because the Boys in Blue become more evil as you age, or is it our increased  understanding of what they do and our tendency as adults—Grown Folks—to test the limits of the Order they are supposed to keep? Or maybe the Firemen are just golden boys, unless you’re an arsonist; then they just spoil all your fun…

Earth Groans

So, I’m sleeping this morning, and at around 4:02 a.m. I’m awakened by a rolling shift of my entire apartment. It wasn’t violent, it was more like what my grandma’s old porch glider felt like when I would lay down in it.

you wanna look at the big blue square

It ended up being a 4.4 in Pico Rivera, but it didn’t cause any damage or anything. Matter of fact, from where I could feel it, it didn’t even cause my blinds to shake wildly for a few seconds. At 4am, and after feverishly checking usgs.gov to no avail, I figured people’d be talking about it on Twitter, given the way similar people reacted to the Mumbai attack and subsequently many other things that caught the MSM’s attention. Sure enough, Twitter was almost 200 tweets deep by the time I decided to get out of the bed and hop online. (more…)

A Classic Speech, Possibly On Deaf Ears

I remember watching this for the first time about a year or so ago. I thought it was worth posting, just in case nobody ever saw it.

I wish stuff like this happened more often. Kids of today should still be doing this. Children have less reputation and ego to manage when speaking their mind, and this is a very good example of how, over time, we’ve suppressed so much of our own consciousness. The truth of the matter is, this isn’t even a very deep speech, but given her age, the prestigious stage this is on, and how relevant this is to EVERYONE ALIVE, dammit it should get the kind of reaction this would get if it was the winning shot of a Game 7 NBA Finals game:

That was a pretty dope oop too.
